The STEM Volleyball curriculum is designed to pair strategic STEM-based activities with volleyball and the techniques behind the sport. STEM Volleyball gives students the opportunity to get behind the game of volleyball by using Newton’s second law of motion, using a radar gun to discover optimal serving speed, engineering a volleyball net, using calculations to determine area and perimeter related to the game and much more. Each educational volleyball activity the students engage in has a direct lesson in the curriculum to take their curiosity and understanding deeper.
STEM Volleyball is an educational enrichment program that combines STEM education and the real-life application of volleyball. It is made up of eight (8) modules, several with worksheets, all which align with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and/or Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and/or National Standards for K-12 Physical Education. Each STEM Volleyball no-sports equipment kit includes a STEM Volleyball Curriculum Manual -- that is easily administered -- and reusable science supplies in order for the program to be fully implemented and turnkey. 5E sequenced lessons are specifically composed and differentiated for grades 3rd, 4th and 5th and another set for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The program is well designed and scalable for teachers, administrators and even volunteers for school classrooms, after-school programs and in camp settings.
In addition to the STEM Volleyball Curriculum Manual, a single STEM Volleyball no-sports equipment kit includes: one (1) Bushnell radar gun, six (6) ribbon spools, six (6) masking tape rolls, one (1) package of 100 12-inch latex balloons, one (1) weight scale, six (6) 25-foot tape measures, one (1) box of 500 toothpicks, one (1) package of 100 straws, and one (1) spool of fishing line. Items removed and thus needed: Six (6) Molten First Touch Volleyballs, six (6) Molten Soft Touch Volleyballs, and six (6) Molten Recreational Volleyballs. and two (2) Molten ball bags, one (1) ball pump, and one (1) set of inflation needles.
